the thought occurred to me that it would be really cool to be able to patch in kaivo or aalto without the mouse, or at least using it less.

what if each patch source and destination was represented by a key on a qwerty keyboard?

so to patch the vel to cutoff, you might hold the 'Q' key and then tap the 'M' key to make the connection. repeat the key combination to unpatch. hold a source key and tap multiple destination keys to route a source to many destinations simultaneously.

if an attenuator is present on the destination, allow the up/down arrows to set the attenuator. focus stays on the last patched cable allowing for up/down attenuator twiddling.

users could toggle a head up display of keys in the GUI against the source/destination patch points.

i'd buy that update for a dollar.

:)

any idea what kaivo will be like on CPU resources? similar to Aalto? less? more?

can't wait to see this synth! will it be possible (or planned in future) to use kaivo as an effect? ie pump a live input into the synth instead of the vco section?

OSX 10.8.3 Aalto VST 1.3.2 Renoise 2.8

When I open Aalto and browse through presets the presets drop down has a really annoying habit of suddenly closing up making me have to reopen the presets drop down any number of times in order to browse. any sudden jerk of the trackpad (not a click!) causes it to close. it's very annoying.

Anyone else experience this? happens me almost all the time.

i guess if it's not being seen elsewhere then it probably is a host issue. i'll try the renoise forums...

cool. really looking forward to aalto 2!

not sure if this is on the radar or not randy, but i'd really like to see the sequencer quantizer expanded. do you know the intellijel uscale module? it's a really intuitive eurorack quantizer that you can feed just about anything into and get harmonically interrelated notes out of. i think it would be a great fit with the aalto quantizer...

has somebody already posted one of these? in case not, simple bouncing ball patch:

<Aalto pluginVersion="66305" presetName="bouncing ball" scaleName="12-equal" scaleDir="" key_glide="0.0100000007" seq_rate="0" lfo_freq="0.0600000024" lfo_level="0.879999995" env1_attack="0.00500000082" env1_decay="0.109999999" env1_sustain="0.709999979" env1_release="6.19000244" env1_level="0.810000002" env1_attack_p="1" env1_decay_p="0.859999895" env1_release_p="1" env2_repeat="9.32968903" env2_delay="0.0200000014" env2_attack="0.00200000033" env2_release="0.0500000082" env2_xenv1="2" env2_delay_p="0.299999952" env2_attack_p="1" env2_repeat_p="4" osc_noise="0.0299999993" osc_ratio="2" osc_index="0.179999992" osc_timbre="0.0199999996" osc_pitch="439.999939" osc_waveshape="0.0799999833" osc_ratio_p="0.639999866" osc_timbre_p="0.179999948" osc_waveshape_p="0.120000005" gate_mode="1" gate_decay="0.469999999" delay_freq="109.999977" filter_cutoff="19999.9961" filter_q="0.50999999" filter_mix="-0.840000033" patcher_input_1="0000000000000000010000000000000" patcher_input_14="0000000000001000000100000000000" editor_x="454" editor_y="38" editor_width="912" editor_height="624" editor_num="1" editor_anim="1"/>

could be the basis for something more developed.

so i had to do a clean install recently and backed up everything before wiping and starting afresh. i had about a years worth of my patchs saved in aalto, but now they seem to be missing from the backup .dmg?

:(

i wasn't really paying attention where i was saving the presets, but presume it was in library/.../audio/presets? can't find em searching for *.aupreset or *.mlpreset. am i missing something really obvious? could they be saved as xml somewhere?

not even going to bother reinstalling any other soft synths this time either. i'm a one synth kinda guy :)

ah ha! hidden library folder. crafty buggers. all back now, thanks randy!

amazing work randy! congratulations. i hope i get a chance to play with one sometime.

not sure, but that would allow DIYers to make some kind of diy patch bay for aalto? imagine a midi-fied arduino based version of this specifically for aalto, with each patch inlet and outlet available as a real world patch point, with associated amount pots:

hi randy,
my particualr sequencer doesn't have an automatic midi learn function. could you provide a list of midi cc numbers for the various things in aalto?

thanks

thanks randy. just dipping in now really. seems like a great synth :)
