Hello. Just bought the license for Sumu, this is a lovely and interesting synth.
I make a lot of microtonal music. In fact, I don't even buy synths that don't have microtonal support (or at least MPE which makes them tune-hackable). Obviously, Sumu supports .scl files, which is great.
Something does annoy me about how Sumu integrates tuning. If I load a patch, the tuning resets to default. So, if I am working on a song, and everything in the song is tuned to 22edo, I can't try out new presets in Sumu while listening to the other music without retuning every preset. Every time I scroll to a new patch, the patch defaults to 12edo. Meanwhile, the rest of my song is in 22edo. It's hard to evaluate whether or not the synth even fits when it's just out of tune. I have to retune the synth every time I want to test out another preset.
I personally advocate that any synth that supports tuning files lock in to whatever tuning you desire per instance of that synth. If I scroll through different patches, the tuning should not change. This is far preferable to being able to save tuning settings to a particular patch (which is not even helpful feature, to be honest).
Ideally, Sumu could integrate with MTS-ESP. Without MTS-ESP, Pigments is similarly annoying to microtune, but if you tune Pigments using MTS-ESP, it is quite convenient and simple.
At the very least, Sumu could work like Surge, Serum, and Vital, which simply lock into a tuning even as you try out different presets.
I hope you will consider this improved functionality for a future update. I love that alternative tuning is already such a prominent feature of this synth: top left, in large print, right underneath the logo.
Awesome!
