Hi.

I'm trying Aalto 1.9.2 on 2019 15" MBP (2.4GHz i9, 32GB RAM) under macOS 10.14.6 / Ableton Live 10.1.5.

What I've noticed is that while the Aalto GUI is visible for a patch like 'Delayed Ghosts' the Live process CPU locks to about 150% with nothing else going on (not actually playing any notes).

However, if I move the UI from the 15" display onto a secondary display (Dell U2412M), CPU use halves.

Any idea what's going on?

Thanks.

I realise one can never have enough of these things and appreciate that you've striven for a one-page design that must have its compromises.

But I'd really like at least a second LFO. They are just too useful to have only one and be constrained to a single rate/shape.

Is it possible you'd add another?

Quick thought, don't see a way to do it now.

But I would like to be able to take the sequencer configuration from one patch and drop it into another patch.

On the subject of LFO's, looking at Kaivo again I noticed it has the 2D LFO where Aalto only has a regular LFO.

Any plans to introduce the 2D LFO to Aalto?

For that matter, I could see uses for the noise generator in Aalto as well.

I know, I know, moon on a stick… I just love… possibilities :)

Could have sworn I'd replied to this but, apparently, only imagined doing so.

Thanks for the tips Randy, I will be giving them a try as I'm on the cusp of buying Aalto. Which is odd because it was Kaivo that originally drew me in…

Ah, no I had not appreciated the repeat dial function. I'll have a look at the manual on that. Thank you. As an aside do you know if any presets do this? I've sampled a reasonable number and haven't come across any yet. (I am enjoying a lot of the machines though, this is the kind of stuff I built in Reaktor and looking forward to playing with this approach in Aalto).

Re: the manual a small omission and your manuals are really excellent. Where I feel most people often do them as an afterthought yours appear a labour of love and kudos to you for that.

Thanks.

Matt

Thanks for the response.

I'm already invested in Ableton Live and not likely to switch.

I guess I could route external LFO's (e.g. the Max LFO) but that rather spoils the fun of playing in the patcher and, of course, can't be saved into an Aalto patch.

But, fair enough, I'm hearing that dual-LFO it's not part of the roadmap.

Thanks.

p.s. "attenuverter" is a new one on me. I tried searching the Aalto manual and came up empty.

Just coming back to this and considering Aalto now … watching some demos and the same thing pops to mind. In an instrument this versatile being able to have only one LFO feels somehow "limiting". I realise this sounds entirely crazy given how versatile the whole thing is but that's how my mind works.

I guess I am used to Reaktor where I can plaster LFO's all over the place and while that's not necessarily a good thing either I think a happy medium where you have 2 or 3 is kind of a minimum working set for me (much like envelopes). In particular the ability to contrast slow variance and fast variance in the same sound.

Also is it possible to have an "inverse" output for the LFO? Again the ability to have co-varying signals could be interesting.

@christianhuygen I don't follow what you've written although it sounds interesting. If I come back to Kaivo I will check it out. Thanks.

I realise this is a bit nitpicky but I'd prefer if Kaivo had followed the macOS default behaviour of putting it's support files in "~/Library/Application Support" rather that in "~/Music"

As an aside though, now that I have found it, is there a problem with me just dropping sample files into Madrona Labs/Samples directly rather than using the Kaivo import function which I find a bit fiddly.

I appreciate the 8s hard limit but is Kaivo doing anything when you import (as opposed to when a sample is loaded) that would be skipped by dropping a sample in there yourself?

Thanks.

Matt

Ah yes, I had forgotten that Apple did that. I have a cronjob that ensures the folder isn't hidden so I'd completely forgotten. Under the circs your choice is quite understandable.

Is there a way to automate the currently selected sample in Live?

Even among a set of preselected sample choices?

Thanks.

Matt

Hi.

I'm trying out Kaivo 1.3.2 VST in Ableton 9.7.6 (macOS 10.12.6, MBP 13,1 2.4GHz i7).

Moving the "leak" dial of the gate section while a note is playing consistent results in crackling sounds as the dial moves. I get the same thing with the "tilt" dial. I haven't noticed it with any other controls.

I get this from the default patch. Is this expected?

Thanks.

Matt

Thanks. It is a shame to have parameters you can't experiment with.

Hrmm… I think I see what you are getting at. I guess I'll need to read the manual again to be sure. I guess I can't test it in the demo version though as I wouldn't be able to save a variant patch.

I've been trying to work out what the nonlin dial does sonically (I've read the manual so I understand the principle) by loading presets and messing with it on the resonator to hear what the difference is. I've yet to be able to discern any difference between it at 0.0 and 1.0.

Please help me out, is there one of the included patches where it makes a clear difference to the sound to them? Can you describe it? Perhaps I am missing something…

Thanks.

Matt

Not driving me crazy… not quite :) Thanks, I will try playing with that model and see what I can hear.
