A couple questions regarding Sumu operation. Apologies in advance for general synthesis ignorance.

  • The oscillators module has an AM/FM selection at the bottom. Given that this module is described as frequency modulation, what does the AM (amplitude modulation?) selector mean? I can hear the differences in the "mockingbird" factory patch, but I don't know how to think of it.

  • Page 43 of the 1.0 manual says this re the level control in the Gates module:

This dial sets the static level of this module’s level attenuator.
Signals from the level input modulate the level, as well.

I can't parse the meaning of that last sentence.

Thanks -- Todd

I'm able to get a 4-channel wav file exported in Cubase 13 by creating an LRCS output buss:

AudioConnections

...redirecting each audio track (4 tracks of audio) to one of the outputs of that LRCS output buss:

OutputRouting

...then selecting "File/Export/Audio Mixdown...", selecting the LRCS buss as the buss to export, and then selecting "Interleaved" as the "Export Type":

ExportAudio

After copying the exported wav file to the AppData section of Kaivo samples, the 4-channel audio is available:

Kaivo

This is probably related to the bug described in this issue:

https://github.com/madronalabs/sumu-issues/issues/23

In Cubase, best case is the Aaltoverb white-out. Worse case is a crash.

Hi synth_nyc -

I'm not seeing your patches in Kaivo. Did they also get renamed?

OS: Windows 11
Komplete Kontrol Version: 3.2.1
Sumu Version: 1.0.0b15

Steps to reproduce

  • Open Komplete Kontrol.
  • Add Sumu to the rack.
  • Show the Sumu interface (e.g. select KK patch browser).
  • Select a Sumu patch via the Sumu interface.
  • Sumu pauses, then KK crashes.

Additional Notes

  • Sumu Early Access 1 crashed KK immediately upon display. In Early Access 2, crash only happens on patch selection.
  • This is not a blocker for me - I only use KK to test VSTs - but it might be for others, e.g. in a performance setting.

OS: Windows 11
Sumu Version: 1.0.0.b15
Cubase Version: 13.0.40

Steps to reproduce

  • Create an instrument track in Cubase with Sumu as the instrument.
  • Select a patch to confirm operation.
  • Add Aaltoverb2 as an insert effect.
  • Aaltoverb2 window starts to paint, and then C13 crashes.

Additional Notes

  • Aaltoverb2 as an insert effect for other synths doesn't crash C13.
  • Other 3rd party reverbs loaded as insert effects for a Sumu instrument track doesn't crash C13.

OS: Windows 11
Sumu Version: 1.0.0b15

Steps to Reproduce:

Run the installer for Sumu Early Access2. Windows 11 raises a warning dialog not to run the unidentified program.

Workaround:

Depending upon the dialog raised, either select the "Run Anyway" option, or expand the dialog (might be "More Information" - can't recall), and "run anyway".

Latest beta works on Cubase 13.0.40, Windows 11.

Loads with default patch displayed, but no partials or chords displayed for the 440 test tone. Workaround is to right-click the patch drop-down to select the Default patch (or any patch), or right-click the partials drop-down.

Re-size handle appears fine, or at least the same as Aaltoverb2. Default size is fine.

See separate posts for more significant bug reports.

Hi Randy -

Just downloaded the Windows eval version and tried hosting it both in Komplete Kontrol and Cubase 13 (latest patch). In both cases, the Sumu window starts to draw, and then the app poofs away without a sign - e.g. no access violation dialog or similar. Just poof.

Machine and OS specifics below (I see that you already noted the Cubase problem).
