ForumsSoftware ← Can't load Aalto 1.7 (64 bit) in Garageband

Hi,
I'm trying to use Aalto 1.7 in Garageband 10.1.0 (OS X is 10.10.5) - as a mobile option when travelling. It seems as though the 64 bit AU Instrument isn't installed or recognised because it doesn't even show up as available. When I load it with AU lab I do get the 32 bit 1.7 plug-in.

No such problems with version 1.6.1; the 64 bit AU plug-in loads in Garageband. In AU lab I see the 1.6.1 32 bit plug-in, but I suspect that is because AU lab may not be able to deal with 64 bit plug-ins.

Can you help me get 1.7 running?

Thanks,
Michiel

Hi Michiel,

Sorry you're having trouble. There was a weird issue with the latest installer where a reboot was sometimes needed after install. So it may seem like weird advice but you could simply try rebooting.

If that fails, I would try removing the old AU component manually and reinstalling. You can find it in ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components (your home dir) or in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components (the root dir).

Then run the new installer again. After installation the new plugin component should be visible in ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components.

You can also try this voodoo to remove your Audio Units cache: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1086

The 32- and 64-bit Audio Units are in the same file, so if one is installed, we know that both are. The problem is likely somewhere in Apple's complex system of validating and registering and caching plugins.

Hi Randy,

I'd already tried removing the components manually - so that didn't work. Nor did a number of reboots.

I couldn't find the Apple support page you referred to, but in the end I stumbled upon some other suggestions. One of them: delete the file "com.apple.audio.InfoHelper.plist" in the Library/Preferences folder, seems to have done the trick.

I guess that this AU mess will only have got worse in El Capitan, so another reason to postpone the update to 10.11 a little longer.

Sorry that Apple link seems to have expired. Thanks for the update.
